Overview

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program (MYP) is a curriculum framework that encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world. The MYP generates a stimulating, challenging learning environment which nurtures inquiry, action, and reflection. The program, which starts in the sixth grade and continues through 10th grade, is intended to prepare students for the Diploma Programme (DP) or other rigorous, advanced academic pathways. Therefore, it provides academic challenge and develops life skills in order to motivate students and help them achieve success in school and in life beyond the classroom.

The MYP is designed to be inclusive and here at Stony Point we firmly believe that every student can benefit from participation in the program. While it is rigorous, this does not mean more work. Rather, it means students delve deeper to gain a greater and lasting grasp of the content. The MYP allows students the opportunity to both do work that facilitates the retention of information and gain a deeper understanding of the content. The result? Students that are on track to be more successful in advanced courses such as IB-DP and AP. Studies also show that participation in the MYP has a positive impact on performance on IB-DP and AP exams, as well as state mandated end-of-course assessments. We encourage all students in 9th & 10th grades to take advantage of this tremendous opportunity by joining the program.
